Understanding Lawrence County Releases
Release means the Lawrence County custodian closed or changed a confinement episode. It does not always mean the person walked into the community without further control. Someone may leave the Lawrence County Jail on bond, after time served, or under a court order. The same person may instead be delivered to an outside county jail, an Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction institution, federal custody, or ICE. A physical move between custodians is a transfer. The Lawrence County release record and the receiving agency record must be read together.
The local anchor is the Lawrence County Sheriff's Office register of confinement. Its retention schedule describes a record with the commitment authority, offense, term, and date of discharge. The linked court order explains why the custody entry changed. Ohio VINE can report a recent event, while ODRC records prison and Adult Parole Authority status. Each source answers a different part of the question.
- Discharge
- The formal end or change of a custodian's confinement entry.
- Time served
- A court credits the ordered jail time as completed.
- Parole
- Conditional release from a parole-eligible prison sentence under state supervision.
- Probation
- A court-managed community sanction that may follow or replace jail time.
Lawrence County Release Types
The release label controls the next search. Bond releases a person before the case is resolved. Completion closes the custodial part of a sentence, yet probation, fines, registration duties, or another case may remain. A dismissal or acquittal can support release only if no other hold exists. Parole and post-release control place a former state prisoner in the community under APA authority.
| Custody event | Meaning | Best next record |
|---|---|---|
| Bond or recognizance | Pretrial community release with court conditions | Municipal or Common Pleas docket plus jail discharge entry |
| Time served or term complete | Ordered confinement has been credited or served | Judgment entry and register of confinement |
| Parole or post-release control | Prison departure with APA supervision | ODRC Offender Search and supervision data |
| Probation or community control | Court supervision in the community | Sentencing court and local probation search |
| Transfer | Custody moved to another jail, ODRC, BOP, or ICE | Transport record and receiving custodian |
A VINE transfer alert, an ODRC institutional status, or a receiving jail confirmation outweighs an assumption based on roster removal. Escape and death are also separate VINE events and must never be described as ordinary release.
Lawrence County Discharge Record Fields
A Lawrence County release record is assembled from existing record families, not a single statewide form. The sheriff's register is the strongest durable local source. The booking packet can add the intake sheet, booking sheet with mug shot, court commitments, fingerprints, property inventory or receipt, and release or transport papers. Medical material and other protected content are outside that request.
| Field or document | What it establishes |
|---|---|
| Name and record number | Connects the request to one confinement entry |
| Commitment date and authority | Shows when and under whose order custody began |
| Offense and term | Identifies the charge basis and ordered period |
| Date of discharge | Shows when the Lawrence custodian closed the entry |
| Release or transport paper | May identify release type or destination agency |
| Property receipt | Documents property handling tied to the booking |
A discharge date alone may not prove community release. Pair it with the existing release, transport, or court paper. Two compatible records are best when the distinction matters.
The record should be read as a chain. The commitment authority identifies the court or agency that placed the person in custody. The term describes what the custodian was expected to enforce. The discharge date closes that local entry, and a destination or transport document reveals whether custody continued elsewhere. Court commitments inside the packet may also show a bond order, jail sentence, dismissal, prison commitment, or other authority. If the reason is not a labeled field, request the existing paper that authorized the event instead of asking a clerk to create a summary. That approach is both clearer and more likely to locate a responsive Lawrence County record.
Release Property Records in Lawrence County
The LCSO retention schedule identifies a property inventory or receipt within the booking record. It also preserves the register of confinement, including the discharge date, for 125 years. This gives a precise route for a person who needs both release confirmation and proof of how booked property was handled.
Ask for the existing property inventory or receipt for the named booking. Do not ask the sheriff to write a new account of events. The request can include the matching discharge and transport papers so the property document is read in context. A visitor or family member should use the official jail page or call the jail for current pickup rules because the published page does not state a release exit, processing hour, or family waiting area.
Request Lawrence County Release Records
Sheriff Policy A-14 makes the clerks division the records custodian. A form may be offered, but the policy says a requester generally need not use it, provide a name, or state a purpose. The request must still describe the existing record with reasonable clarity. Routine records should be supplied at once when feasible. A non-routine request should receive an acknowledgment with an estimate of business days, cost, and possible exemptions.
- Identify the person, approximate commitment and discharge dates, and a booking number or date of birth if known.
- Ask for the register-of-confinement entry, booking packet, discharge or release paper, transport or destination entry, and property receipt.
- Exclude medical and other protected material. Request electronic delivery and a cost estimate before charges are incurred.
- If material is redacted or denied, ask for the written reason and supporting legal authority.

Ohio Law on Lawrence Release Records
Ohio Revised Code 149.43 governs prompt inspection at reasonable times and copies at cost within a reasonable period, subject to exclusions. Medical records, specified parole and probation proceedings, confidential law-enforcement investigatory material, victim information, juvenile records, and sealed or expunged matter may be withheld or redacted. A public discharge date can remain available even when part of the linked packet is protected.
Sealing restricts ordinary access. Expungement generally calls for destruction, deletion, or erasure under statutory rules, but neither process guarantees removal of every independent copy.
Under the version of ORC 2953.32 effective September 30, 2025, waiting periods depend on the offense and final discharge. The statute has major exclusions. Final discharge can depend on the whole sentence and its obligations, not merely the jail exit date.
Did Lawrence County Bond Mean Release?
Lawrence County Municipal Court publishes a bond schedule effective March 1, 2024 with offense-specific amounts and tiered DUI examples. The schedule can explain a presumptive amount. It cannot prove that a named person paid, signed, or left the jail.
Confirm the docket entry and the confinement-discharge record. A bond can be set while another warrant, case, detainer, or transport order keeps the person in custody. The exact court and booking record must agree.
Why Lawrence Releases May Be Transfers
The county's 2022 jail project page said standards had reduced the older jail's working capacity to 27 while its average population was nearly five times that figure. Outside housing approached $1 million per year. Those dated figures explain the local transfer problem; they are not a current population report.
Commissioner minutes from January 28, 2025 document a Monroe County housing contract at $75 per person per day. Someone absent from an Ironton image may therefore be held elsewhere. Ask the Lawrence County Jail for the receiving facility, then confirm physical release with that custodian and the legal outcome with the Lawrence court.
Find Released Lawrence County Inmates
Begin with jurisdiction and custody type. Search results from a namesake county in Missouri do not describe Lawrence County, Ohio. Gather the full name, date of birth or age, booking or case number, approximate dates, and arresting agency before contacting a custodian.
- Call the Lawrence County Jail and ask whether the event was discharge, outside-county housing, ODRC transport, or another hold.
- Search Lawrence County Municipal Court, Ironton Municipal Court, or Common Pleas eServices and read the actual judgment or release entry.
- Search Ohio VINE for a recent person-specific custody event and match the reporting agency.
- Use ODRC Offender Search if a felony prison sentence or APA supervision is involved.
- Check local probation or state supervision, then request the durable sheriff record when web data is not enough.
- Use BOP, ICE, or the federal docket only when federal facts point to those systems.
A released person normally leaves a current roster. Disappearance proves neither the release time nor the destination because transfer and data refresh can produce the same result.
Three Lawrence Release Court Searches
Release evidence is split among Lawrence County Municipal CaseLook, Ironton Municipal CaseLook, and Common Pleas eServices. Both municipal systems warn that at least 24 hours, and sometimes longer, can pass before a filing or court action appears online. Common Pleas holds the felony journal entry, including prison sentences and judicial release.
The correct court depends on the case. A same-day jail answer should be reconciled with that docket rather than treated as a countywide court result.
The Lawrence Municipal search screen shows its access agreement and delay context. The official CaseLook source should be checked before relying on a screen capture.
The screen confirms that court data is a legal-event source, not a live custody roster.
ODRC Search for Lawrence Releases
The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction Offender Search covers people who entered state prison or appear in ODRC supervision data. It does not archive every short Lawrence County Jail stay. Match middle name, age, ODRC number, offense, county of commitment, and admission data before assigning a record.
| ODRC field | How to read it |
|---|---|
| Status or location | Institution, APA placement, released status, or other current label |
| County and case data | Connects the result to a Lawrence County commitment |
| Admission Date | Date ODRC received the person |
| Jail Time Credit | Qualifying prior confinement credited to the sentence |
| Expected Release Date/Parole Eligibility Date | Projection or first parole consideration point, not a promise |
| Expiration of Supervision Term | Maximum reported APA control period |
The ODRC definitions keep these milestones separate. A person may leave prison and remain on parole or post-release control.
The official search interface exposes status, commitment county, and parole-hearing fields. Review the current ODRC search before using the displayed labels.
These fields help separate a state-prison release from a county-jail discharge.
Lawrence County Recent Release Gap
No official Lawrence County, Ohio rolling 24-hour or 72-hour release feed was found. The sheriff's jail page provides contact and operating details, not searchable release history. A separate static inmate image page says it is updated Friday through Monday mornings, but it has no defined release window, reason, history, or reliable departure timestamp.
For a fresh event, call the jail, check VINE, and read the correct docket. For a specific day or date range, ask for existing register-of-confinement discharge entries. The office need not create a new analytical report. The 24-Hour Release List page gives the same-day fallback in local terms.
Lawrence Release Supervision Checks
Parole, post-release control, and probation are distinct. ODRC and its Adult Parole Authority manage state parole and post-release control. A sentencing court manages probation or community control. Lawrence County Municipal Court publishes a probationer search, while ODRC results can identify APA supervision and a unit such as SCIOTO 2.
A community address does not prove supervision ended. Read the reported status and expiration date, then use the assigned office for current instructions. The local Parole & Probation page separates the court and APA routes.
Lawrence Release Alerts and Federal Records
Ohio VINE can report county-jail and ODRC events. County events include general release, transfer, escape, and death. ODRC offers additional parole and transitional-control notices. A VINE event is the supplying agency's report, so the sheriff, ODRC, and court should confirm its reason and destination.
The BOP Inmate Locator covers sentenced federal records after 1982 and may show a release date. ICE's locator covers current detention and people released from ICE custody within the previous 60 days. USMS has no equivalent historical public locator; use the federal docket and a targeted agency request.
Federal labels need the same care as local ones. A BOP result marked “In Transit” is not a release, and a Community Corrections Management location may concern halfway-house or home-confinement administration. BOP also warns that departure from its custody does not establish the end of supervised release or another agency's custody. ICE ODLS accepts either a nine-digit A-number with country of birth or exact biographical details. After its 60-day released-person window closes, absence is expected and proves little. A county departure followed by an immigration detainer can be a direct handoff to ICE, so the Lawrence jail's transport document and a prompt ODLS check are more useful than calling the event an unrestricted community release.
Lawrence Custody and Release Sources
Choose the system that held the person. No single roster covers local, state, federal, and immigration custody.
| Situation | Primary source | What it can confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Current Lawrence jail custody | Jail phone and current sheriff material | Present physical holding or transfer direction |
| Past county confinement | Register of confinement and court docket | Discharge date and legal cause |
| State prison or APA | ODRC Offender Search | Institution, release status, dates, and supervision |
| Federal sentenced custody | BOP Locator and federal docket | BOP release date and sentence record |
| Recent ICE custody | ICE ODLS | Current detention or release within its recent window |
Lawrence County Release Facilities
Lawrence County custody routes overlap. The operating jail, contract housing, a community-based correctional center, statewide prisons, and federal systems require different release records. The juvenile center is listed only to prevent adult-search confusion; access is restricted.
- Lawrence County Jail: local adult booking, confinement, discharge, and transfer records.
- Outside-county contract jail, presently including Monroe County: receiving jail confirms physical release.
- STAR Community Justice Center: court-linked residential placement and discharge.
- Lawrence County Juvenile Center: restricted juvenile procedures, outside the adult search.
- Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction institutions: statewide prison and APA records.
- Federal custody systems: separate BOP, ICE, USMS, and federal court paths.
Dated history can confuse the map. A proposed 200-bed replacement, the older constrained jail, ongoing outside contracts, and repealed temporary authority for a Franklin Furnace site are not interchangeable. Former ORC 341.121 was repealed effective September 30, 2021, so it is history rather than proof of a current Lawrence jail.
STAR adds another boundary. It is a community-based correctional facility in Franklin Furnace, Scioto County, that serves Lawrence County among other counties. Completion may lead to community discharge and court follow-up, while a violation may return the participant to court or prison. The sentencing docket and STAR should be checked together. No current ODRC prison was identified inside Lawrence County, but a Lawrence sentence can place a person at any institution ODRC assigns. Likewise, the Lawrence County Juvenile Center must not be folded into an adult inmate lookup. Juvenile access is restricted, and a permitted requester must follow the facility and juvenile court process.
